Worldwide, tens of thousands of people have successfully experienced greater balance, control and happiness in their lives. They are a lot like you. Many have been faced with increased anxiety, mounting stress, chronic pain, or serious illness. Through their participation in the eight-week Stress Reduction Program, they have been able to enjoy greater harmony in their lives. The majority have experienced:

Our approach is called M.B.S.R.
(Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction)
Mindfulness Meditation is a way of learning to be attentive to whatever is happening in your life. By systematically working with your own stress, pain, illness, or life challenges, you will be able to capture and maximize moments of joy as well as gain an enhanced understanding when confronted with the unsettling difficulties of life. The M.B.S.R. program is intended to guide you in developing this inner resource that already exists within you.
Who participates in the M.B.S.R. program?
Often, doctors and other health care professionals send their patients to participate in the M.B.S.R. program as a complement to their prescribed medical treatment. Many have experienced heightened effectiveness and a restored feeling of wholeness by complementing their medical treatment with a program focused on the mind, body and soul.
Others are self-referred. On their journey to achieve a balanced sense of health and well being, many people have proactively sought out the M.B.S.R. program to better understand their strengths from within and to improve their lives through increased awareness.
Many enroll because, although they are feeling well physically, they say the pace of their lives is "out of control" or they're "just not feeling quite right."

Tell me about the program
The course schedule consist of eight weekly classes and one day-long retreat. Each class is two and a half hours in length and is highly participatory in nature. Program features include:
- Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation
- Gentle yoga and stretching
- Group dialogue and instruction-enhance awareness in everyday life
- Individually-tailored instruction
- A personal workbook and four meditation recordings
- Daily home assignments
Maureen Lauer-Gatta will create a supportive learning environment that meets each participant at their individual level.
- I'm concerned my physical limitations will make it impossible to do Yoga.
You will not be expected to do anything you are not capable of doing. You will be given guidance in how to modify the instructions. The main principle of yoga is that of becoming aware of ourselves, and rest at the physical and emotional boundaries we happen to be at any given moment. In doing so, our bodies reflect priceless lessons not available in textbooks.
- Does this program have a religious orientation?
No. Mindfulness Meditation is about paying attention to everything that might be relevant as part of being human. Its essence is universal and not the exclusive domain of a particular religion. It is a powerful way to tap into our inner resources for healing, learning, growing, and transformation.
Tuition and Payment Plans
This program is supported through your tuition. We offer a sliding scale based upon household income.
Because our goal is to make the program available to those who could benefit, regardless of their ability to pay, a limited number of partial or full scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn
The highly effective M.B.S.R. program was founded in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. The stress Reduction Clinic has been highly acclaimed by several media sources, including Bill Moyer's PBS documentary "Healing and the Mind", NBC Dateline, OPRAH, ABC's Chronicle, and various national print publications. M.B.S.R. is the subject of Dr. Kabat-Zinn's best selling book, "Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of your Body to Face Stress, Pain and Illness".
